Graffiti Styles part 1 : Throw-up

The Throw up is also known as a “fill-in,” or “throwie” which is normally painted very quickly with two or three colors, sacrificing aesthetics for speed. Throw-ups can also be outlined on a surface with one color. It sits a tag and a piece in terms of complexity and time investment. Easy-to-paint bubble shapes often form the letters. A throw-up is designed for quick execution, to avoid attracting attention to the writer.

Throw-ups are often utilized by writers who wish to achieve a large number of tags while competing with rival artists. Most artists have both a tag and a throw-up that are pretty much fixed compared to graffiti pieces. It is mostly so because they need to have a recognizable logo for others to identify them and their own individual styles.

The purist said that a real throw up is made in a single stroke without stopping the spray.

Next post will talk about the TAG
