Jean-Michel Basquiat was an American artist who came to personify the art scene of the 80s,with its merging of youth culture, money, hype, excess, and self-destruction. He gained popularity, first as a graffiti artist in New York City, and then as a successful 1980s-era Neo-expressionist artist like Keith Haring.
