Graffiti styles part 3 : The Piece

The piece is the global form of the graffiti. A piece is a more elaborate representation of the artist’s name, incorporating more stylized and artistic form of letters, using three or more colors. This of course is done at the expense of timeliness.

It’s the most difficult exercice of this little project. So many styles, so many kind of letters that it’s too complicated to classify them clearly. Let’s try!

The best way to debate is to post links with an illustration of the style. There will be one article for each style.

Graffiti styles Part 2 : Tag

Some of the most common styles of graffiti have their own names. A “tag” is the most basic writing of an artist’s name in either spray paint or marker. A graffiti writer’s tag is his or her personalized signature. It’s by far the most common form of graffiti. The tag is a stylized signature, normally done in one color. The simplest and most prevalent type of graffiti, a tag is often done in a color that contrasts sharply with its background. Writers often tag on or beside their pieces, following the practice of traditional artists who sign their artwork.
